Carlos Villanueva has extensive global experience of business development, commercial management, negotiation, commercial coaching and training in the oil and gas industry.
Carlos recently retired as a Global Commercial Manager for Baker Hughes, the oil service company based in Houston, after 17 years of service. During that time, he spearheaded the global Contract Performance Review process by performing in-depth commercial reviews of global contracts and implementing strategies, which improved profitability and drove commercial excellence across the business segments. He also managed the global sales pipeline for strategic opportunities and prioritized portfolio management for strategic alignment and scenario planning. Carlos led the Latin America Region commercial team in implementing commercial best practice, systems and standards and established Commercial Management as a support function. Between 2005 and 2012, Carlos led the development of a global Best-in-Class tendering and contract management process and developed a commercial training program, which drove process improvement and effectiveness. Carlos was the lead facilitator for 84 commercial workshops conducted globally and also served as a coach and mentor.
Carlos started his career and worked 20 years with BP in the UK and in Venezuela. He managed a multi-discipline team in evaluating and winning approval for a $50 million water injection scheme. He was also a senior project manager for a novel deep-water subsea design as part of a $30 million R&D Project. He holds patents as co-inventor of component designs for the Deep-water Project. He is also author and co-author of four papers on Deep-water systems.
He holds a Ph.D. in Dynamics and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and is a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer, London.
